Dr. Melissa Hood is an associate veterinarian at Orchid Springs Animal Hospital, on our team since March 2015. She previously worked at Orchid Springs Animal Hospital from 2007-2009. Dr. Hood graduated from the University of Florida with a Bachelor’s degree in zoology in 1992 and also obtained her veterinary degree from the University of Florida in 1996. Dr. Hood was born in Washington DC, but spent most of her life in Florida. She has resided in Lakeland since 2005, where she lives with her husband, 2 children, 2 dogs (both rescued) and 1 cat (adopted from our hospital).
Dr. Hood particularly loves her feline patients, geriatric patients and she has completed additional training in rehabilitation and physical therapy, as well as hospice care.
In her off time, Dr. Hood is a PTA board member at her children’s school and is active in their various chosen hobbies. Her interests include photography, biking, swimming (she was once an avid triathlete), and visiting national parks/camping with her family.
