Pet Wellness Exams

Annual wellness examinations are very important for your adult pet. Our pets age significantly faster than us, so it’s important for any health problems to be identified early. Senior pets (any pets over the age of 7 years) are prone to even more health issues than young pets are, and it’s important to make sure that they are given thorough physical examinations biannually. This ensures that any potential health problems are caught early enough that they can be treated. Early identification is important for certain common geriatric problems like kidney disease which requires a drastic change in diet.

Preventative Care

We are strong advocates of preventative care. We firmly believe that prevention is the most efficient and cost-effective means of handling future health concerns. As a result we recommend a variety of preventative efforts for pets, including:

  • Flea and tick preventatives
  • Heartworm preventative and annual testing
  • Core vaccines for your cat or dog that are appropriate for their lifestyle

Preventing problems is the first step toward a long, healthy life for your best friend.

Veterinary Diagnostic Labs

Even when your pet is healthy, Veterinary Diagnostic Labs are an important part of keeping them in the best possible condition. At Orchid Springs Animal Hospital, we are able to diagnose a variety of conditions with our advanced diagnostic tools. Some of our diagnostic services include digital x-ray, ultrasound and Digatherm’s thermal imaging. As well as in-house laboratory to process results for blood tests, urinalysis, fecal and more.

In-House Pharmacy

We have an in-house pharmacy for the convenience of our clients and our patients. Our pharmacy is fully stocked with most of the prescription medications that we prescribe, enabling you to leave with your pet’s medicine quickly.

Pet Microchipping Services

Microchipping is an essential part of owning a cat or dog. We recommend all pets be microchipped in order to ensure their reunion with you in the event of a separation. The Humane Society estimates that 1 in 3 pets are lost during their lifetime and 90% of those are never returned. With excellent technology like microchipping available to us, there’s no reason not to do it! We work exclusively with Home Again microchips and we even register your chip for you to make the process as simple as possible for both you and your pet.

Spay and Neuter Services

Spaying and neutering your pet is an important part of their health. If you are not breeding your pet, we recommend spaying and neutering early—around 6 months of age, and for females, before their first heat cycle—to offset future health problems. Spaying females prevents uterine and ovarian cancers, and also minimizes the risk of mammary cancer, while neutering males eliminates the possibility of testicular cancer and minimizes the risk of prostate cancer and many behavioral problems.
