Hospital Policies

At Orchid Springs Animal Hospital, we have a variety of hospital policies in place to make your visit as stress-free as possible. These policies keep our hospital running smoothly, ensuring that each of our patients receives the care and attention that they need. Please contact us if you have any questions about our policies.

Appointment Policy

We welcome walk-ins, but for the convenience of our clients, appointments are preferred. We do offer top priority to emergency cases, and second priority to scheduled appointments.

Patient Arrival Policy

For the safety and protection of our clients and patients, we require all dogs to be leashed and properly controlled in our waiting room and examination rooms. We also recommend walking your dog before taking him or her in the car to the hospital. Walks help dogs work out some of that nervous energy in advance!

We also require all cats to arrive in an appropriate cat carrier. We understand that some cats may not enjoy carriers or may be afraid of them, but here are our suggestions for dealing with that issue:

A few days before your scheduled visit (preferably 1 week), take your carrier out of storage and place it near your cat’s feeding area. Next, leave the carrier door open and put your cat’s favorite blanket and some toys in the carrier so it becomes a familiar part of your cat’s environment. After some time, place some of its favorite foods inside or on top of the carrier. Because the next stressful event for many cats is simply traveling in your car, which always means a visit to the vet clinic, minimize your cat’s fear by taking it for a couple of short rides before the day of your visit. Your cat should eventually consider its carrier a safe haven.

Boarding Policy

For the protection of each of our boarding guests, we require that all new guests pass a physical exam performed by one of our veterinarians prior to their first visit. We do not board pets that have internal or external parasites or contagious diseases. Each pet also needs to be current on all vaccines and regularly using a heart worm preventative such as Heartgard. All canines and felines upon arrival will receive a Capstar or Advantus, a 24 hour flea pill, that will not effect their current monthly prevention. This is to insure our facility stays flea free. Our kennel staff is also qualified to administer any medications your pet may need while staying with us.

Retractable Leash Free Zone Policy

We at Orchid Springs Animal Hospital want to provide a safe and fear free visit for your canine friend. Our staff members are always carefully watching to help prevent unpleasant confrontations between patients, but when a dog is on a retractable leash, our staff cannot tell how long the leash may be and cannot act to prevent a problem. So please do not use retractable leashes at Orchid Springs Animal Hospital for the safety of your pet. If you arrive and realize that you only have a retractable leash with you to use for your pet’s visit, we are happy to provide a fixed length leash. Just ask any member of the staff. Thank you so much for cooperating and protecting our patients and clients from harm.
