Canine Massage

Benefits of Massage

The primary benefits of massage are increased circulation and endorphin release.

(Plus it feels good!)

Nutrient/oxygen rich blood is supplied to the muscles, which maintains healthy muscles and facilitates the healing process for sore/injured muscles.

Increased endorphin levels improve behavior and aid in the body's natural healing process.

Did you know?  Trained hands can also find abnormalities, which may indicate an underlying problem.  The first step to a full recovery is an early diagnosis!

Initial Touch:

Many animals are initially uncomfortable with structured touch (massage).  This is not unusual and should be expected to some degree.  Massage is very intimate for people and animals.  Therefore, intense focus and touch by a stranger is sometimes uncomfortable for an animal until trust is established.  Usually by the third massage (the magic massage) they fully understand, appreciate and enjoy massage.

Massage:

The primary goal with massage is to relieve discomfort.

Animals compensate for sore/injured muscles and joints by shifting their weight to other pain free muscles and joints.  This compensation can cause a chain reaction of pain and discomfort.  Massage can reverse this effect and keep the body comfortable.

Cold Laser Therapy:

Low Level Laser is used in conjunction with massage to decrease inflamamation and promote healing of cells.  Laser light is emitted from a diode which penetrates tissue and is completely safe.

Massage Fees:  Initial consultation is $60.00 and includes obtaining a history, gait analysis, evaluation and massage.  Massage is charged $50.00 per session thereafter.

Cold Laser Fees:  $20.00 per session when applied in conjunction with massage.

Treadmill Fees:  $25.00 Single Session.  $150.00 Unlimited Monthly Program.  $400.00 Unlimited 3 Month Program.

Corissa Antemesaris

Initially educated and trained as a veterinary technician, I recognized the need for animal massage early in my career and studied at the Boulder College of Massage Therapy.  For several years I worked in the local animal shelters of Denver, Colorado - incorporating massage into the nursing care of sick and injured animals.  In addition to shelter work, I maintained a private practice, meeting the diverse needs of agility champions and geriatrics alike.  I am pleased to join the team at Orchid Springs Animal Hospital where we provide massage to complement the medical care and achieve your pet's optimal wellness.
